Back when I was photographing restaurants, my various images dove tailed nicely with my many years in the restaurant business.

I understood the stresses a photographer can bring to a chef and floor staff. Knowing how to move with the flow of the kitchen and servers can make make a chef more relaxed and more accommodating — resulting in that extra sparkle and magic that the camera can capture.

I shot with available light, onboard flash and a reflector as my only lighting. This made for a much quicker and less obtrusive impact on a busy, fast moving restaurant.

Part of being a photographer is being a diplomat; understanding the language and customs of the restaurant environment is essential.

The beauty of a meal made with passion and pride makes for beautiful images, whether it is a high end tuna tartare, or an all American meatloaf dinner.
